The Presenter for PEP@HC on October 26, 2017 at 6:00 PM in the Haw Creek Elementary Cafeteria is Janet Cumbee, Ed.D..
Janet Cumbee, Ed.D., is a regional director at Center for the Collaborative Classroom. With more than 30 years’ experience in public schools, she has served as a classroom teacher, a principal in elementary and secondary schools, and a director of instruction and assessment. She has a BA in Secondary Education, an MS in Education, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.
The ‘Being a Writer’ Program is designed by the Center for the Collaborative Classroom. After HCE tested the program in a few classrooms last year, they found the system to be a very positive addition to HCE’s academic offerings. This school year ‘Being a Writer’ was adopted school wide. Therefore, the PEP@HC has invited Ms. Cumbee to share the program with our parents so they can reinforce it at home. Dr. Cumbee will engage the parents in a writing activity titled, ‘Early Memories’. In this way, they will have an opportunity to experience the Being-a-Writer process. BOX TOPS FALL DRIVE OCTOBER 3-20th
The homeroom of each grade level that collects the most Box Tops will win an ICE CREAM PARTY!
Cutting and saving Box Tops...what an awesome and easy way to get involved and give back to our school!! For each Box Top that is submitted, HCES earns 10 cents. If every student turned in 50 Box Tops, that would equal $5.00 per student. With just over 1,000 students, that would easily amount to $5,000 for our school!
The goal this year is to raise $4,000. With your help, the money raised will go toward creating a 21st century Media Center. To get involved, simply cut the Box Tops off participating grocery items, place them in a ziploc bag with your child's name and teacher, and send into school. Each homeroom will have a collection container.

Christian Brothers is a Faith-Based, auto service and repair franchise that has been in business for 36 years, has 172 shops nationwide and has never closed a location. Each shop is family owned, and our local facility is located just off 400 at exit 13. Tom employs 4 ASE Master certified technicians qualified to work on any make or model vehicle – including diesels. They have a shuttle service to take you home and pick you back up when your vehicle is ready, and their warranty on all work is 2 years, 24 thousand miles whichever comes last. Their employees do not work on commission, so there is no incentive to upsell a customer and they will never recommend parts or services that are not needed. If you have never experienced their comfortable waiting room with free wi-fi, coffee, water, and service writers who seek to save you money, you really need to give them a try!
