Honoring Veteran's Day
On November 10th Haw Creek PTA will sponsor a Veteran’s Day program to show our support and appreciation for all Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel.
This year we have once again partnered with Treat the Troops - Southern Style. Last year Haw Creek families donated over 600 pounds of candy, toiletries and other snacks to our active military through this organization! This year, starting November 1st, we will be collecting donations of items such as candy (yes, that means we will take all of your unwanted Halloween candy!), single serve drink mixes, granola bars, cereal bars and travel size toiletry items. A full list of accepted items is on the back of the flyer. We will be collecting items at the car pool lane and in the school until our assembly. Every single item that is collected will be made into care packages that will be sent to our troops.
On November 10th, we would like to invite our students to bring one Veteran or Active Duty Military Personnel to attend a continental breakfast followed by an assembly in the cafeteria. All guests are encouraged to proudly wear service uniforms. To RSVP visit, Haw Creek Veteran's Day Assembly.
FALL BOX TOP DRIVE A SUCCESS
The Fall Box Tops drive is over and we want to thank everyone for collecting and submitting their Box Tops. We collected a total of 17,345 Box Tops! Congratulations to the following classes that submitted the most Box Tops for their grade and have won an ICE CREAM PARTY (date to be announced):
Please encourage your students to continue to collect Box Tops throughout the year. We will have another Box Tops drive in the spring and want to meet our goal of earning $3,000 for the school year.
Your child has worked really hard on a special project for the Art Show! Look for information to come home mid-November about our awesome on-line art gallery. You will have the opportunity to purchase your child’s artwork on products from the on-line art-based fundraiser.
On December 15th, your child’s artwork from the on-line gallery will be framed and displayed at the HCES Fine Arts Night. At this event, you will have the opportunity to purchase your child’s artwork framed. The proceeds from both fundraisers will be used to purchase new supplies for the art program. – April Wylie
It's that time of year again!! So mark your calendars because "tis' theseason"...as the annual Haw Creek PTA Holiday Gift Shop is coming soon! This year the dates of the Holiday Gift Shop will be December 8th-15th during school hours and additional evening hours for one evening on Friday, December 8th during Holiday Family Fun Night.
The Haw Creek PTA Holiday Gift Shop provides your child the unique opportunity to shop all on their own and buy reasonably priced merchandise (all gifts are under $10.00) for the holiday season in a safe, and fun shopping environment…right here at school! In addition, all gifts will come home individually gift wrapped and ready to give to family and friends (there will also be gift items available for dogs and cats too)!! Volunteer “Shopping Elves” will be on hand to assist all the students as they select all their gifts on their Holiday Shopping List.
Look for more information in your child’s backpack in the coming weeks!! Thanks to everyone for your support! We could not do this fun event, year after year, without the help of all the wonderful families at Haw Creek.

Parent Engagement Program
In the New Year 2018, would you be interested in participating in a Community Consultants for Science (CCFS) program at HCE – CCFS@HCE? (Note: Please access more information at the HCE page under ‘Parents and Partners’ in the PEP@HC’s Science section. You may also check the link that provides overviews of the K-5 Science Curriculum to see if you have a particular area of interest.)
The PEP@HC (Parent Engagement Program) would like to ask you to consider participating in our CCFS@HCE. Currently, a primary goal of STEM/STEAM instruction includes, not only, the discussion of real life applications of STEM/STEAM learning but the classroom participation of professionals who use those concepts addressed through the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE’s) in their area of expertise.
How will the program work? Through the CCFS@HCE program, the STEM professional will work directly with the participating teacher(s) to address a particular Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE), or, an extension of a GSE in any individual or combined STEAM topic of S (science) – T (technology) – E (electronics) - A (art) - M (math). As professionals in your respective fields, the Teacher and the CCFS will work together, on one of the many STEAM lessons available, or on one you’ve created, to plan and present a cooperative, hands-on activity that can promote students’ understanding of the targeted concept and its’ useful place in the real world.
Since it is in the formative stage, we welcome your questions and comments regarding CCFS@HCE. Our HCES community has so many STEM professionals that drawing on this pool of expertise could be very helpful to our student population. You may even know of a STEM professional who would have a positive impact on students learning and could suggest their involvement in CCFS@HCE. (Note: If you are not sure whether a profession classifies as a STEM/STEAM job the following site may help http://www.onetonline.org/find/item/?t=0
Thank you for taking the time to consider participating in CCFS@HCE and for forwarding your thoughts and questions regarding the program and its’ implementation.
PEP@HC would like to remind all PK-5 HCE Parents that the program’s webpage links under the heading ‘Parents and Partners’ on the HCE site contains information regarding future meeting dates, as well as, some learning resources that can be used for one-on-one work at home. There is, also, some general academic information, too.
